Games 2006
AUSTRALIA (AUS)

Mar 19-25 Melbourne
NB:
There were few "true" juniors at these Games, although a number of
19-year-olds performed well, and have been noted below.
I enjoyed all of the events from the
venue media centre at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), which allowed me to
walk around the stadium concourse on the second floor. This afforded wonderfully
close-up views of every event, which together with big-screen replays gave a
full and detailed perspective throughout the six days of intense competition. TV coverage will
have varied from country to country, while newspapers had their share of stories
to tell - athletes tripping, batons dropping, disqualifications, etc.
The weather was fine and sunny every day, with
temperatures between 24-30 degrees, and little or no wind - making for excellent
performances on the track and in the field.
Volunteers made this a wonderful
occasion, giving us superb service, with a smile!
Tony Hunt
New Zealand managing to secure a couple of gold medals, together with the odd
silver or two, made my trip all the better!
